EFFECT OF EDUCATION USING BOOKLET TOWARD DRUG COMPLIANCE WITH HYPERTENSION PATIENTS IN ONE OF SIDAREJA AREA CLINICS

Abstract


Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease which is a serious health problem. In 2011 the World Health Organization said 50% -70% of patients were not compliant with antihypertensive drugs. Low compliance with taking medication will cause uncontrolled blood pressure which can increase the risk of complications. Some studies say that adherence to hypertensive patients in first-level health facilities in 2018 shows that more than 50% of respondents in one region have low levels of adherence. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of providing education through booklets on medication adherence for hypertensive patients. Methods: This study was an observational study with one group pre / post test design. The study was conducted on one group of respondents, then given an educational intervention booklet media and measured again. Data is collected by interview method based on a valid and reliable questionnaire. Results: Wilcoxon statistical test results showed a significant change in the level of adherence of hypertensive patients before and after providing education with booklets (p <0.005). Conclusions and Sugesstions: Giving a booklet to hypertensive patients as education can improve medication adherence in one clinic in Sidareja. Further research needs to be done on hypertension patient compliance by means of different education and a wider coverage area.
